Job Description and Duties **Pending HRB Approval** The Manufactured Cannabis Safety Branch (MCSB), in the California Department of Public Health, is implementing a new regulatory framework that will govern cannabis manufacturers in California. MCSB is committed to ensuring that products are child resistant and packaged appropriately, in a hazard-free and sanitary environment. We work collaboratively with local and state agencies as well as the industry to implement and achieve regulatory compliance & licensure. Working under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientist will perform complex inspections at cannabis manufacturing premises. The incumbent will ensure manufacturers comply with applicable cannabis laws and regulations; including the application of scientific methodologies and principles in reviewing, researching, and identifying problems with cannabis manufacturing facilities; review and analyze standard operating procedures in all of the following areas: cannabinoid extraction methods and procedures, use of extraction solvents, good manufacturing practices, hazard critical control points and mitigating measures, inventory control and disposal procedures, employee training and safety requirements, safety and security measures, as well as other regulatory manufacturing requirements. This position requires travel more than 50% of the time, and may have overnight stays. Special Requirements: 1. All MCSB field employees must submit to a live scan fingerprinting process to obtain state (and federal if requested by the hiring authority) fingerprint clearance prior to employment. 2.This position requires Medical Clearance prior to being hired. 3. After hire into MCSB, field employees will be subject to the live scan fingerprinting process, in order to receive possible subsequent arrest and conviction notifications until MCSB submits a “No Longer Interested” (NLI) form to DOJ. The NLI form is submitted when an employee terminates their employment with MCSB.
